Ryan Goeckner, PhD, MA

I am a cultural anthropologist studying how belief, experience, and meaning shape health, identity, and care – especially in contexts where experiences are dismissed or misunderstood.

Research

My research explores how health disparities emerge and endure by examining the powerful role of belief, culture, and lived experience in shaping health and wellbeing.

Teaching

As an educator, I see my job as twofold: to help students challenge the way they see the world, and to support them in discovering new perspectives through hands-on, real-world learning.

Outreach

Through my outreach, I aim to make cultural understanding accessible beyond the university by creating spaces where diverse ways of life can be understood, respected, and meaningfully engaged.

Some of the most impactful work happens through interdisciplinary partnership.
